No Sound.

We have had calls from people who are getting no sound on their PC. In all cases they have had no sound at all, not just from our software.

Solutions.

1) Your first step is to double-check that they have no sound at all. Open DXDiag, slect the 'Sound' tab and click the 'Test DirectSound' button. Follow the on-screen prompts. See point 4 below.

2) Make sure that you have a soundcard installed and it has a proper driver loaded.

3) Make sure that speakers are properly connected and turned on. Open the volume control and check nothing is mutted or turned down, to open the volume control click Start - Programs - Accessories - Entertainment - Volume Control.

4) Install DirectX if you don't have it already. Once you have DirectX installed, click Start - Run, type 'dxdiag' in the dialogue box and click OK. This will open the DirectX diagnostic tool. Click on the Sound tab and then click on Test DirectSound. If there is an hardware fault you will get an error immediately, otherwise you should hear a sound and then get a dialogue along the lines of 'Did you hear a sound play?' If you do not hear the test sound then go back and check drivers, volume control and speaker connections.
